December Meeting

November 28, 2007

December 4

1:30 and 7, Extension Center

We’re having a Christmas Party! We’ll have a gift exchange, eat yummy food and play a sewing game. What do you need to do? Three things (all optional, of course!):

1. Bring a homemade potholder for the gift exchange. Wrap it, making sure your name is inside so the recipient knows you made it.

2. Bring a snack to share.

3. Contribute to La Familia. We’ll be collecting sewing notions that are new or in good shape. Or, if you’d rather, we’ll also be collecting money to pay to refurbish a used sewing machine for the center.

Don’t forget your “sew-n-tell’s”.

No-Bus Bus Trip Update

November 21, 2007

Just wanted to send out an update on the No-Bus Bus Trip on Fri, Nov 30, and Sat, Dec 1. We’ve talked to our local merchants and everyone wants in on the fun!

How does a No-Bus Bus Trip work? Easy! If you start on Friday, go first to Needle Nook, Prairie Quilts or the Sewing Center. Shop a little and pick up a passport with the names of all the stops. Then, hit the road — visit as few or as many of the participating shops as you like. At every one, check out the specials or discounts they will be offering us and be sure to get your passport stamped. If you start on Saturday and would like to join us for breakfast, come to the Riverside Cup of Tea ($10.50). We’ll be handing out passports and arranging carpools at breakfast, if you’d like to ride with someone else.

We’ll be shopping at A-1 Singer Sewing Center, Attic Heirlooms, Gramma’s Calico Cupboard, Hancock Fabrics, Hen Feathers, Jo-Ann Fabrics, Midwest Sewing Center, Needle Nook, Needles & Notions, Picket Fence, Prairie Quilts, Sunflower Quilts, the Sewing Center, Twist Yarn Shop and Water Street Fabrics. Most are offering us at least 10% discounts, with several going as high as 25%.

Bring your passport to our regular meeting on December 4 — very important!
For every stamp in your passport, you’ll get a ticket in a drawing for some really nice gifts our merchants have donated, including books, fabrics, sewing shears and a sewing machine!

If you haven’t already signed up, call Becky at 722-0939 or email her at If you want to join us for breakfast, she needs to hear from you by Monday, November 26.

No Bus Bus Trip

November 4, 2007

Remember — our No Bus Bus Trip to visit local merchants will be Friday, November 30, and Saturday, December 1.  This will be a great opportunity to visit those stores you’ve “been meaning to check out” and find out what great products they offer.  Many will be offering product demos or in-store specials just for us!

On Friday, you can pick up passports at Needle Nook Fabrics, Prairie Quilts or the Sewing Center.  On Saturday, you can still pick up passports at those stores, or, better yet, join us for breakfast at Riverside Cup of Tea (8 am).  The fee for breakfast will be $10.50.

If you are interested, please sign up at the November meeting or call Becky Wondra this week.  We need a count to give to merchants — even if you are not planning to eat breakfast with us on Saturday.

Road Trip to Concordia

November 4, 2007

Time for a road trip!  We’re making a car caravan to Concordia on Thursday, November 8.  The caravan will leave the Extension Center at 7 am.  We’ll visit Country Cousins, a marvelous fabric store with both quilting and garment fabrics, and some other interesting places in Concordia, including lunch at the Huckleberry Tea Room.  The cost of the trip is $35 (to pay for gas for the drivers).

If you are interested, sign up at the meeting on Tuesday, or call Shirley.

PS — Our June meeting, on sewing with panels, was conducted by the gals from Country Cousins.  For a memory jogger, check out the pictures at

November Meeting

November 4, 2007

The Wichita ASG meeting will be Tuesday, November 6, 1:30 and 7, Sedgwick Co Extension Center (21st and Ridge Rd).  We will be making quick Christmas projects.

If you would like to work on a project or two, the materials list for each project is in your newsletter or here on the website.  If you would just like to check out the projects and pick up instruction sheets, that’s good too!

We will be holding our annual election of officers at this meeting, so if you haven’t turned in a proxy ballot yet, please vote at the meeting or send your proxy (in the newsletter) to Betty ASAP!
